About the author

My author’s name is Balazsh Branyi named after Zsigmond Brányi, who was a director of the Győr County educational district in the 1920s and the 1930s, his wife was the sister of my grandmother’s mother.

I have been writing novels, poems, and sketches since I was able to create stories at the age of 14. I worked as an English teacher at the University Language School of the University of Veszprém from 1994 to 2004. Then, I dealt with website and 3D architectural design and worked as a web editor at Pannon Lapok Ltd.

I’m interested in the history of Hungary and Europe in the 16th century, so I wrote two novels dealing with this era. The Golden Cup of Örvényes tells the story of the escape of Queen Mary, the wife of King Lajos II, after the defeat of Mohács on 29th August 1526. It was written at 16, and I received good criticism from Arthúr Sibelka Perleberg, a great teacher and writer, and Bulcsú Berta, a famous writer of the 1980s. They were my mentors, but unfortunately, they passed away. I should mention the influence of my teacher of Hungarian Literature at the Secondary Grammar School, László Lovassy. He is called István Asztalos, a teacher of the Hungarian Language and Literature who wrote playwrights for the theatre named Sándor Petőfi in Veszprém.

I was also taught by a great poet, Géza Kemény when I attended school in the 1980s. He is not among us, but his influence was strong.

The Magic of Venice is a trilogy: The Magic of Venice, Enchanted by the North and Coming Home, it depicts a Hungarian goldsmith’s story from the Kingdom of Hungary to Edinburgh, Scotland, and back to Veszprém, the homeland of Tamás Gyulaffy in the 1540s.

I published a sci-fi novel, Xylanthia the Last Hope I-III, at amazon.com in 2018, you can have a quick look inside, the first ten pages are free to read. I revised and refined the text in October 2023, you can buy a copy on amazon.com online bookstore: e-copy 5.99 USD, paperback 11.99 USD.

The Magic of Venice I-III in Hungarian and the Golden Cup of Örvényes is a historical novel combined with a treasure hunt for a golden cup in the 1980s in Hungary. It will probably published in 2024 in Hungarian.

Have a pleasant reading experience, and do not forget: “Words fly away while writings remain.”
